ESPN Deportes and the City of Doral unveiled an art mural in celebration of the 2015 Pan American Games, the second largest multi-sport event in the Americas, taking place in Toronto from July 10 to the 26.

The mural, painted by native Floridian artist David “DaveL” Lavernia, embodies the multiculturalism of Miami residents and serves as a tribute to the forty-one nations participating in the 2015 Pan American Games. ESPN Deportes executives and on-air personality Jose del Valle, commentator and co-host of Jorge Ramos y Su Banda, joined the City of Doral Mayor Luigi Boria, Vice-Mayor Sandra Ruiz and Lavernia in a special ceremony to unveil the mural last Friday, May 29 at the Buzzer Beater Restaurant.
“The inspiration for me was swimming, because I have always practiced it, but I love all sports played in the Pan American Games,” said Lavernia. “I’ve followed them since I was a little kid. It meant a lot to me to be able to paint this Mural in my city.”
“As a culturally-diverse City, Doral is the perfect location for this Pam American Games 2015 mural. Through opportunities such as this, we continue to support the arts in the community. Thank you to ESPN Deportes, our artist David Lavernia, and all who played a part in bringing this exciting project to our growing City,” said Luigi Boria, Mayor of the City of Doral.
Accompanied by local leaders and sports personalities, the beautiful Miss Florida USA 2015 pageants lifted the veil. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail celebration where attendees gathered to celebrate this initiative, linking the arts with sports and Latin American culture.

“Because every single country in the Americas participate in the Pan American Games, this is an event is for our entire audience,” said Lino Garcia, General Manager of ESPN Deportes. “This quadrennial sports competition is a temple for us; we are making a team effort to offer our viewers a surround sound of the Pan Am Games and this initiative is an expression of the special focus we are putting on it.”
“I commend ESPN and Quoikos as well as local Miami artist, Dave Lavernia, for painting the Pam American Games 2015 mural. This mural will serve as an icon in the City of Doral and our community will benefit greatly with the promotion of arts and culture,” added Vice-Mayor Sandra Ruiz.
As the official and exclusive presenter of the XVII Pan American Games Toronto 2015 in the U.S., ESPN and ESPN Deportes will provide exclusive, multimedia coverage of the Games in English and Spanish across their platforms. ESPN and ESPN 2 will dedicate more than 60 hours of live coverage while ESPN Deportes will present over 200 hours of Olympic-type coverage around the event.
The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games will feature 36 Summer Olympic sports, such as soccer, boxing, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, cycling, judo, etc. More than 7,000 athletes, representing all nations in the Americas, are expected to compete in Toronto.
